about

Wolakota is a collection of music that tells a story. A story of a journey.

A traveller is on a journey through the wild, through nature. In solitude and surrounded by beauty. The traveller carries a flute and 2 gifts - gratitude and wonder - to accompany the journey. Each piece of music represents a pause on the journey, a pause to play in response to the beauty and the experience. Recurring themes twist and curl through the music, tying the pieces together to tell the story.

The pieces were not recorded at standard concert pitch, which is A = 440hz. The flute used was tuned to an earlier standard of pitch, of A = 432hz. Its a tuning which is supposed to be very close to the cycles of nature and "in tune" with it, including our own brainwaves. Its impossible to say definitively if instruments tuned to 432hz do indeed have healing properties as is claimed, though many do find it has a physical effect on them. To read more about the properties of tuning to 432hz this is a good place to start - www.mtvdance.com/philoscience/432page.html

"Wolakota" is a Lakota Sioux word that means peace, friendship & compassion. I hope all three are offered and felt with the music presented here.

The whole collection of songs was recorded on one flute, made by Tony Babbitt of Quahada Wind Flutes. The flute, pictured on the album art, was made specifically to make this project possible and is a work of art. You can see Tony's work at www.qwflutes.com . Tony's support and encouragement has been vital in seeing this project come to fruition.
